Billy Wayne Key passed away on July 4, 2017 in Orange Park, FL. He was born on June 29, 1950 in Anniston, AL, the son of the late Lindsey and Louise Hutton.
Billy was a 20 years veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1973 to 1993. His military career took him to many exciting places. He went to boot camp at Orlando, FL, from July 1973 until September 1973. Then he went to NATTC Lakehurst, NJ from September to October 1973 and then on to NAS Bermuda from, November 1973 to May 1975. Next, he went aboard the USS Independence CV-62 from June 1975 until July 1977. NAS Whitting Field, Milton, FL was his next duty assignment from August 1977 until August 1979. From there he served aboard the USS Lexington AVT 16 from October 1979 until June of 1984.
After leaving the USS Lexington, Wayne returned to NATTC Lakehurst, NJ where he served from July 1984 until January 1988. In April of 1988 he reported to Naval Support Force Antarctica until May 1991, leaving there he reported to VP 30 NAS Jacksonville, FL from June 1991 to August 1993 as his final duty station.
Preceding Billy in death are his parents and grandparents, Henry and Ester Smith.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Janice M. Key; children, Lindsey Key, Lesilee Hampton, Bruce, Brian and Jason Eskuche; grandchildren, Austin and Alex Hampton, Wyatt and Madison Key, Kaitlyn, Kenzie, Bruce Kyler, Kyndal and Lexi Eskuche; granddaughter, Aubrey Key; brother, Larry Key; sister, Linda Fowler; nephews, Scott Key, Christopher Gibson and Timothy Green; niece, Brandy Bailey and many friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 12:00 Noon following the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233.
