Donald A. Shamblin

Donald Allen Shamblin, 69, of Orange Park, FL, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. His wife, daughters and stepdaughter were present with him at the time of his passing.

Don was born on June 12, 1948, in Gallipolis, Ohio. He moved to Alexandria, VA, with his family in 1959. He was a 1966 graduate of Edison High School in Alexandria and attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for four years, including overseas tours in Korea and Taiwan. After military service, he returned to Alexandria and pursued a career in real estate. He worked for Better Homes Real Estate and Coldwell Banker Real Estate in the Northern Virginia area. Don relocated his family to Jacksonville, FL, in the early 1990s and continued working in real estate sales management and brokerage. He most recently served as vice president and managing broker of the Orange Park – Oakleaf Office of Watson Realty Corporation.

Don was a strong follower of the Christian faith and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Orange Park. He loved early-morning gym workouts, visiting with friends and family, and watching Florida State and Jacksonville Jaguars football.    

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Shamblin.

He is survived by his wife, Winifred Young Shamblin; daughters, Lisa Mathew of Pataskala, OH, Holly (husband Neil) Sliva of Endicott, NY and step-daughter, Lori Millward (husband Bill) of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren: Steeve, Ricky and Paisley, all of Pataskala, OH, Ansley Read, Wesley Read, and Skyllar King, all of Jacksonville, FL.  He is also survived by his parents, Don and Grace Shamblin; brother, Ron (wife Andrea) Shamblin and sister, Eva (husband Kerry) Donley, all of Alexandria, VA. He is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Orange Park, 1140 Kingsley Ave, Orange Park, FL 32073. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
