March 4, 2018. The day we will all remember as the day Ethel A. Sims-Gallagher, otherwise known as “Tully” by her loved ones, was accepted into Heaven’s gates.
Born on July 7, 1945 to John G. Gallagher, Sr. and Bernice Gallagher in Key West, FL. At an early age she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal savior, serving in Newman United Methodist Church. She has been a faithful member of St. James AME Church, Orange Park since 2008.
Tully was educated in the Monroe County School System and graduated from Douglas High School. She attended Virginia State College in Norfolk, VA. After leaving Key West, she resided in Jacksonville, Miami, San Diego, CA; and Orange Park. She worked in financial administration.
Tully was married to James C. Sims and together raised two beautiful daughters that preceded her in death, Kathy Sims Russell and Deborah Sims Sparks.
Tully loved and truly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed talking about her seafood and rice, and guava duff.
Tully leaves to mourn her passing, six grandchildren: Jamica Monet Idalene Sims, Whitney Alexandria Sparks, Dewayne Clifford Sparks Jr., Deonna Nicole Calhoun, K'Von Michael Russell, and Tiaanna Sparks; great-grandchildren: Jayden Donald Sparks, Giavonnie Anita Sparks, Earnest Jerome Gates, III, Legend Jovan Johnson, Isaiah Sparks, Faith Anita-Nicole Calhoun, Dewayne Clifford Sparks, III, Ye'Va Cherry Calhoun, and one on the way; sisters: Elsie White and Johnnie Mae Dunn (Milford); brothers: John G. Gallagher, Jr. (Margaret), Rev. Charles David Gallagher (Brenda), and Rudy Gallagher; a special niece, Dr. Ericka Terrell Tillman; surrogate daughter, Beatrice D.
