Bertha Lee Brown, 79, daughter of the late Lucian James and Lucy Jane Herring was born January 4, 1940 in Willard, NC. She passed away on August 6, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.
She joined Greater Church of God By Faith in August of 1978, where she served as an usher and on the Hospitality Committee. She was educated in New Hanover County Schools in Wilmington, NC and retired from the Duval County School Board in 1998. She loved spending time with her family, having the grandchildren together to play the piano, bowling and preparing family dinners. She loved crocheting and doing arts and crafts, making picture frames with popsicle sticks.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her loving husband of 59 years, Robert Lee Brown, Sr.; sister, Marguerite Burnett, Wilmington, NC; sisters-in-law, Inge Mains, Anniston, AL, and Dorothy Digsby, Charlotte, NC.
Children - Elton (Deborah) Brown; Phyllis Parrish; Carlos (Wynnee) Brown; Garron (Zinnie) Brown; Nichelle (Joseph) Boone, all from Jacksonville; Robert (Soreatta) Brown, Jr., Fruitland Park, FL; step-daughter - Mavor Deavors, Wilmington, NC.
Grandchildren - Daryl (Heather) Blackmon, Stacie (Stephen) Washington, Katrina Hagger, Melonie (Adolphus) Pinder, Christopher (Belinda) Hagger, Grace Brown, Sherard Brown, Sr., Latasha Brown, Gerald Sampson, Jr., Alexis Brown, Christian (Joy) Brown, Nyesha Williams, Jacoby and Genesis Boone, Chaz, Destiny and Robert Brown III, Demetria Johnson, Lanetta Jenkins.
Great-Grandchildren - Tiffany Blackmon, Laila and Jase Washington, Charity and Charlton Irvine, Jonah Hagger, Sherard Jr., Ashley, Rayshard, Cameron and Alona Brown, Christian, Jr. and Jonathan Brown, Corey Johnson, Monique and Mahogany Smith.

She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and countless other relatives, God-daughter, Dale Burnett, Wilmington, NC.; God-son, Eric Roberts, Sr.; devoted friend and confidant of more than 40 years, Willie Roberts, adopted daughter, Sandra Milton all of Jacksonville, FL. She will be dearly missed by all of us, but she is in God’s hands
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Church of God By Faith, 2434 Old Middleburg Road N., Jacksonville, FL 32210. The interment will take place on Monday, August 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
