Jacob Harwell Baker of Middleburg, FL died sometime the weekend of January 26, 2019 from a drug overdose. Jacob fought the battle of addiction in 2011 but the battle to stay clean was too much.
Jacob was born on November 19, 1991 to loving parents, Andrew K Baker (Deceased) and Tina Hacker Baker and a brother, Andrew (Drew) K. Baker II. Jacob graduated from Middleburg High School in May of 2010 where he excelled in soccer. He attended St. Johns River College earning an Associate Degree and was currently attending Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Jacob was a fisherman. He learned a love of fishing at an early age from his father. For Jacob, fishing was about ritual and mystery. It’s about acknowledging a power greater than our own. Recognizing that we play a small part in the scheme of things. It’s about faith. Faith that the next cast will be the one, that the fish on the line will make it into the boat, and that if this day didn’t go well, the next would be better. Jacob had a love of trains that was surely passed on by his namesake, Harwell P. Estes and Jacob passed his love to his nephew, Andy. Jacob treasured playing with his niece and nephew. Jacob loved to take them to see and experience new things from hiking in the woods or going to a dinosaur exhibit, spending time learning and laughing was important to him.
Jacob will be missed by his mother, and his brother, Drew (Deanna) Baker along with his niece and nephew. Jacob leaves behind his grandparents, Charles and Loretta Baker of WV; grandmother, Mary Hacker of Middleburg, FL; Aunt, Amy (Ken) Ellenburg, Uncles, Phil (Sonya) Hacker, Thomas Hacker, Greg (Tammy) Hacker, Jeff (Cindy) Baker, Doug Baker, and Jason (Regina) Baker. Jacob is preceded in death by his father, Andy and his grandfather, Claude Hacker. He also leaves behind his faithful furbuddy, Choby. Jacob’s life was blessed by many friendships throughout his short life. Like his father, he never knew a stranger. Jacob was blessed to have his father’s love for smiling and many will remember him for that. Jacob was baptized into the Methodist faith and a member of the Middleburg United Methodist Church
