John Luther Shumpert, Sr., 98, passed away on June 30, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on February 22, 1920 in Nettleton, MS to the late John Andy Shumpert and Dessie Georgia Shumpert.
Mr. Shumpert was a member at Potter’s House International Ministries. He enjoyed Jigsaw puzzles and gardening.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Willie Mae Mills, Sarah M. Ray, Gennie R. Davis, Flora Mae Williamson, Mertha G. Russ, Blanzine Dunwoody; brothers, Leroy and Charlie P. Shumpert.
John is survived by his loving wife, Grace Shumpert; children, John L. Shumpert, Jr., Cindy Cunningham (Edwin), Exie Washington and godchild, Gwen White; grandchildren, Marcus, Andre and Shekinah Whitaker, Lemuel and Brian Cunningham, Porcia Ansley-Campbell, Brandon Shumpert, Johnathan Bolton-Shumpert and Christian Richie; great-grandchildren, Tyler Bryant, Jalen Benjamin, Jordan Rentrope, Amare, Sanaa, and Dylan Whitaker and Janiya Bolton; brothers, Otis, Robert L. and Donaldson Shumpert; sisters, Exie and Cedra Muhammad, and Lois T. Gray, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. at The Potter’s House, 5119 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
