My name is Lawrence Mapps. I was born October 16, 1946 in Middlesex County, NJ. I passed away on June 7, 2017 shortly after midnight.

Soon after I was born, I was adopted by George and Ernestine Mapps. In 1952 we moved to San Mateo, FL and then to Jacksonville, where I grew up. I joined the U.S. Navy reserves my junior year of high school so I would be able to serve my country as soon as possible. I graduated from Paxon High School in 1965. I then proceeded to serve my country for 23 years. I am a Vietnam veteran and I retired from the Navy in 1987 as a Senior Chief.

I leave behind my wonderful, beautiful, loving wife Karen; my beautiful son, Larry and his wife, Catrina; and my two wonderful, vibrant granddaughters, Keikilani and Samantha. I also leave behind many other family members and friends. Nobody could have asked for or had a better more loving family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.

A visitation will be held on Monday June 12, 2017 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 1:00p.m. following the visitation beginning at 12:00 noon.
