A beautiful life was ended on Friday, June 8, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, when Leona Dorothy McLoyd fell into the arms of her master. She was an only child, born to Beulah Perry and Professor Leonard Collier. She was born on April 22, 1923 in Yukon, FL.
Leona was reared in the home of Mrs. Fannie Gary and received her education at local schools in Duval County. She was united in marriage with Ishmeal Fennell and to this union three children were born.
Later Leona married George McLoyd. They moved to New York City and she lived there for 45 years, before moving to Atlanta, GA, where she lived for 15 years. Her last move was back to Jacksonville, FL where she lived out the remaining nine years of her life at St. Catherine’s Laboure Place.
She was preceded in death by two of her children, Juanita Dorothy Witherspoon, and Eddie Ishmeal Fennell.
To cherish her loving memory, Leona leaves her beloved devoted daughter, Helen (Samuel) Lee; seven living grandchildren, Donald J., Denise J., Deborah J. (Lamar), Darryl J., Diane J. (Joe), Eddie, and Robin; as well as three deceased grandchildren, Sharron, Robert, and Eddie, Jr.; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the funeral service on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., both at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange park, Florida 32073 (904) 264-1233.
