Richard F. Flake, Jr.

Richard F. Flake, Jr. passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019. 

As a ‘Navy Brat’, Richard was born on December 28, 1963 in Kingsville, TX to Richard F. Flake and Harriet E. Flake. He passed away on August 8, 2019 in Orange Park, FL.

He grew up in Mountain View, CA, Jacksonville, FL and Atsugi, Japan where he started school. Following Japan, he lived on Naval Station Guam where he enjoyed snorkeling and Little League Baseball. After Guam Richard moved with his family to Eva Beach, HI where he played the French horn in the school’s band and learned to surf. Then it was on to Orange Park, FL where Richard attended Orange Park High School and played on the school’s football team. After graduation and a couple of short-term jobs, he started work at Jacksonville Kennel Club. He was there from April 1986 until his death on August 8, 2019, a total 33 years.

Richard enjoyed fishing and took every opportunity to hunt down the elusive bass. He had many friends and was always willing to lend a hand when called upon.

He is survived by his parents, Richard and Harriet Flake; aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. following a visitation starting at 1:30 p.m., both at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233.
