Richard Miller Obituary

Richard M. Miller, of Orange Park, FL passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 7:36 p.m. at Orange Park Medical Center.  He was born September 18, 1940 in Peoria, IL. He married Marilyn K. Nelson of Peoria, IL in 1963 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

He was a resident of Morton, IL from 1966 to 1982 and Orange Park, FL from 1982 until his death.

Richard attended Von Steuben and St. Bernard’s grade schools, Woodruff High School, Illinois Central College and Bradley University. He was active in Boy Scouts of America for 20 years as a Scout, Scout Master and Explorer Advisor. He attained the rank of Silver Award Eagle and was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.

He was active as an auxiliary officer with the Morton, IL Police Department from 1968 until 1982.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton and active in the Cursillo Movement of the Peoria Diocese. He achieved the Fourth Degree Knighthood with the Knights of Columbus and served as the Morton chapter Grand Knight and later District Deputy Knight. His local parish in Orange Park was St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

He was a proud member of Local #34 IBEW of Peoria for over 40 years as a journeyman electrician. He worked for Pabst Brewing Company as an electrician and foreman for 17 years. He finished his career at Anheuser Busch in Jacksonville, FL after 17 years as a Foreman, Supervisor and Group Manager in the Maintenance/Engineering Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael R. Miller and Dorothy F. (Meyer) Miller; sister, Patti Jo Miller; brother, Dennis J. Miller; infant son, Timothy and infant daughter, Maria.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn K. (Nelson) Miller; sons, Jeffrey (partner Anthony Morrison), Mark, Richard (wife Mandy), and Christopher (partner Rhonda McLemore Griffin), all of North Florida; five grandchildren, Joshua, Anna, Austin, Gavin and Ava; brother, James Miller of Orange Park, FL; sister-in-law, Joy Johannes Miller; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233, with Reverend David Holladay officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.  The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the staff of Orange Park Medical Center and Memorial Hospital.
