Deacon William "Willie" Marshall Rutledge was born on January 17, 1926 in Yukon, Florida to Rosa Lee and Theodore Alexander Rutledge, Sr. He was called home by our Heavenly Father on March 22, 2019. He was affectionately known by his family and friends as “Pig”.
Deacon Rutledge attended the local public schools in Duval County. He was united in marriage to the former Nellie Prater. He was employed at Foremost Dairy as a porter. He also held various positions at the Timuquana Country Club and NAS Jacksonville Officer’s Club.
He received the Lord as his personal Savior and united with Greater New Mount Lilla Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully for many years. He held positions as a Deacon, Trustee and usher. He could be called upon to care for the church and its properties as his sacred duty and was routinely on his post as an usher. In fact, his last usher assignment was on March 17, 2019,
In his leisure time, he loved listening to all types of music and enjoyed a good round of golf. While he and his wife had no children of their own, they were especially fond of their god daughter, Crystal S. Rowell.
Deacon Rutledge was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie; his parents; five brothers, Herbert, Alonzo, Henry, Theodore, and George; and one sister, Rosa Lee Wilson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one brother, James (Minerva); two sisters, Ola Mae Lott and Margaret LeCount; god daughter, Crystal and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifetime friends.
