Adolphus “Tommy” Thomas Allen

Adolphus Thomas Allen was born on July 21, 1943, in Milledgeville, Georgia, to Louie and Evangeline Butts Allen. He was the youngest of six children and spent his early childhood in Milledgeville. After a brief illness, God called him home on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Shortly after graduating from Boddie High School in Milledgeville, 1961, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he met and married Joyce Scott. To this union, one child was born, Adolphus “Al” Allen.

Tommy, as he was better known, was a graduate of Wayne State University, majoring in criminal justice and was employed with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 1988. After retirement, Tommy moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he met and married Ann Theresa Donawa.

Tommy was preceeded in death by his parents, Louie C. Allen and Evangeline Butts Allen; son, Adolphus “Al” Allen; brother, Louie C. Allen, Jr.; sisters, Mary Otealia Allen Edwards, Evelyn Maria Allen Peeler and Eva Elaine Allen Pritchard and father-in-law, Louis E. Donawa.

To mourn his passing, he leaves his devoted wife of 30 years, Ann; son, Paul (Susie); grandson, Ian; mother-in-law, Vickey Donawa; sister, Emily Palmer-Garland. Also mourning his passing are his brothers-in-law, Harold Donawa (Barbara), Louis Donawa (Helena), Ray Donawa (Merna), Esmond Donawa (Yasmin), Ian Donawa (Alma), Charmaine Scott (Christopher); and a host of nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. both at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073.
