Alexander Catacutan Olis, 60, of Orange Park, FL passed away December 23, 2018. He was born on July 9, 1958 in Tanjay, Negros Oriental, Philippines to Lilia Catacutan and the late Apolonio Olis, Sr.
He earned his B.S. Agronomy from Silliman University Philippines, M.S. Soil and Water Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand), and Ph.D. Soil Chemistry from Rutgers University. He met his wife, Rubi, in Thailand and they married in 1985 in New Jersey. He worked for Ebasco Engineering then took a position with ABB in Orange Park. Alex then taught chemistry at Middleburg and Ridgeview high schools for 17 years, until 2018.
Alex was a faithful parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church since 1993. Alex was on the Christ Renews His Parish Team 3 and on the Presenting Teams 4, 5, 6, and 7. He anchored a Sunday morning Perpetual Adoration hour for twelve years. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served as its webmaster for seven years. He was active in the Parish Neighborhood Communities and undertook the Kerygma retreat in September 2016. Alex and Rubi helped guide both sons’ journey to the Eagle Scout rank.
He is survived by his mother; his wife; sons, Paolo and Daniel; brothers, Manuel, Apolonio Jr, and Isidro; and sisters, Manolita, Maria Teresita, Maria Luisa, and Maria Christina.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Orange Park, FL on January 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Tanjay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o St. Catherine Catholic Church.
