Arie Watkins Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arie Esther Watkins, lovingly known as “Eric” of Jacksonville, Florida, on May 13, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born on April 1, 1945, in Arkansas to the late Clyde Watkins and Louise Tate, Eric lived a life defined by honor, resilience, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family. At just 18 years old, he began a long and distinguished career in the United States military. Through hard work, determination, and strength of character, he rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer, earning numerous awards and commendations throughout his service. He retired with honors, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and excellence.

After his military career, Eric continued serving others through his work with the United States Postal Service. There, he formed lifelong friendships, earned the respect of his colleagues, and received many accolades for his commitment and work ethic. Following retirement, he devoted his time to enjoying life with the people he loved most — his family.

Eric found joy in life’s simple pleasures: watching scary movies, reading, crossword puzzles, talking sports, and relaxing with an ice-cold Budweiser. He was deeply thoughtful, endlessly curious, and loved philosophical conversations. His sense of humor was unforgettable — often laughing just as hard as everyone else at his own jokes.

Above all, Eric will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was the heart and light of his family — selfless, dependable, wise, and loving beyond measure. Everyone who knew him loved him.

He never complained, even through life’s hardships. He carried himself with quiet strength, grace, and humility. To his family, he was truly one of a kind — a once-in-a-lifetime man whose love and presence can never be replaced.

Eric leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Brenda Watkins; his children, Arie Lakeba Watkins, Kendra Duck, Chaurice Duck, Vanicia Duck, Deniece Fields, Shirley George, and Tanja Everett; his grandchildren, Shamya Smith, De’Arie Duck, and Da'Nicia Duck; his great-grandchild, Avyanna Duck; and his cousin, Ronald Guyton, along with countless extended family members and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
