Arvilla Aldridge Obituary

Arvilla (Patterson) Aldridge, 93, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 1, 2020 with her family by her side. Arvilla, affectionally known by friends as “Bob,” was born to the late Samuel and Clara Patterson, on August 11, 1926 in Green Cove Springs, where she remained for over 90 years.

Arvilla graduated from Green Cove Springs’ Dunbar High School and went on to become a housewife and mother of five children. She was a wonderful mother who fiercely loved her family and cherished being a mother.

Arvilla led a very simple lifestyle, but there were a few things that she took great pride in and enjoyed. Among them was her cooking. If you knew her, you knew that her favorite meal was collard greens and fried fish! She loved making and sharing them with all that came to visit. While advances in technology were great, she insisted on hanging her clothes on the line and letting God’s fresh air dry them, was a better choice than any man-made machine. She welcomed all who visited, but especially looked forward to Sundays when her nephew, Larry, would come over to talk about old times and the family. When she got out and about, she enjoyed going down to the Spring by the river and just riding around town to see what was going on. She kept it simple, but found the ultimate satisfaction in her family, friends and faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Aldridge, longtime friend John Battles, sisters Lillian Jenkins, Zona Mae Patterson, Naomi Richardson and granddaughters Yolanda and Tracey Kenty and beloved son-in-law, James Ham Sr.

Arvilla is survived by her children Loretta Kenty-Armstrong, Sandra Ham, Barbara Aldridge, William Aldridge (Joyce), and Carol Aldridge-Glover (Richard). Her grandchildren James Ham Jr., Adrian Aldridge, Desmond Jackson, Marcia Fowler, Dorian Aldridge, Jason Ham, Dana Hodges, Tykia Patterson, Helena Aldridge-Epps and a host of great-grandchildren. Her nieces and nephews Samuel Richardson (Jessie), Larry Richardson (Geraldine), Beverly Glover (Tony), and Curtis Richardson (Nina).

The family has entrusted Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home with the arrangements. A public viewing is scheduled for August 8, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073. .
