DEACON BASIL Q. WALDRON
January 10, 1935 - June 16, 2021
Basil Waldron passed away on June 16, 2021, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on January 10, 1935, in Georgetown, Guyana, to the late Cecil and Miriam Waldron. Basil migrated to the US in 1978 and settled in Brooklyn, NY. He maintained dual residences in New York and Jacksonville, FL, until his retirement in 2016.
Basil worked as a Chief Steward on multiple vessels including the Cape Race and Baron Bellhaven, as he traveled many seas. He was a member of the Seafarer International Union and the Scottish Flower Lodge #12A of Georgetown. After he migrated to the U.S., he joined Corinthian Lodge No. 12 IOMPU. He also joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and served on the hospitality committee, where he shared his excellent cooking skills doing what he so much enjoyed. Basil loved socializing, music, dancing, reading and was an avid sports fan. He especially loved cricket.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Randolph Overton, Leyland James and Frederick Waldron.
Basil is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Waldron; children, Nadine (Adrian) Robinson, Simone Waldron, Christopher Waldron, Donita Waldron and Marc (Alana) Waldron; grandchildren, Kashif Robinson, Khadim Robinson, Bria Waldron, Brandi Waldron and Kimora Fenton; great-grandchildren, Khaden Robinson, Khloei Urbine, Adrianna Robinson and King Robinson; brother, David Waldron; sisters, Olive Waldron and Florence Person; nephews, Winston Overton, Aubrey Overton, Dennis Millinaton, Rawle Waldron, Sr., David Viard, Mark Viard, Roderick
Waldron, Sr., Eon Waldron, VouWayne Booker, Frederick Booker, Christopher Waldron and Timothy Waldron; nieces, Yvonne October, Denise Waldron and Peggy Hinds Clarke and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073. Funeral service's for Mr. Waldron will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2538 Firestone Road, Jacksonville, FL 32210.
