Carolyn Sopal Obituary

Born to the late Reafus Locke, Sr. and Ollie Ruth Locke on April 7, 1955, Carolyn Joyce Locke was the ninth child and baby girl of twelve siblings. She grew up on Charleston Street in Hollywood, FL, and graduated in 1973 from Hollywood Hills High School and then attended Broward Community College. South Florida was where she spent time with her family, made lifelong friends, married, and had two children. There is where she learned the importance of prayer, family, friends, hard work, love, and in her words: “how to make a dolla holla.” She was encouraged by her mother to step out of her comfort zone and find her place in the world.

Carolyn stepped out on faith and relocated to Orange Park, FL in May 1990. She began her career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a Claims Provider Specialist for Medicare Part B and retired in 2012, after 21 years. In 1994, she purchased a home and planted her roots. Many of her coworkers became lifelong friends and have shared in many memories over the years.

Carolyn was known as a loving mother, sister, aunt, devoted friend, mentor, and fighter, who was always there for everyone. She was well known for her infectious laughter, wisdom, putting others first, and your biggest supporter. Carolyn had a sparkling personality that was irresistible, a heart of gold, and a gift of gab.

She loved hanging out with family and friends, was a sports enthusiast and had a mean game of spades. She was always kind and loved everyone she met like family. We are grateful that God gave us such a beautiful, loving mother who fully supported us in all our adventures.

On May 13, 2023, Carolyn was called home by our Heavenly Father. We will miss her dearly, the love and laughter, the memories we will keep with us forever. We trust in the Lord and know that she is in His loving care. She leaves precious memories to cherish with: daughter, Ladonna Sopal of Orange Park, and son, Jemar Sopal of Orange Park; brothers, Nathaniel Locke (Mary) of Jacksonville, David Locke (Gwendolen) of Palm Coast, Reafus Locke, Jr. of Killeen, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Carolyn’s Motto: “If you’re gonna do something, then do it right!”
