Charles Wesley Obituary

Charles S. Wesley passed away on September 21, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on January 9, 1941 in Washington, D.C., to the late Charles Frank Wesley and Marie Wesley.

Charles graduated from Temple University, held a helicopter pilot’s license, retired from the U.S. Army and the U.S. Post Office. While serving in the Army, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat and Infantry Badge, Overseas Service Bars, Parachute Badge, Purple Heart Pathfinder Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Aviator Badge, Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Medal. He was a hardcore man known in the Army as “The Rock.” Charles was a member of Trinidad Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

Charles was a loving father, brother and a good friend to everyone. He was always giving some type of advice and wisdom, even if you did not want it, hoping you would always make the right decision. Charles was stern, but fair- very old school. He always loved to try new things in life and enjoyed skiing, bowling, golfing, softball, referring, fishing, boating, sports and having friends and family over to BBQ and enjoy the pool. You could frequently find Charles in his mancave out on the patio listening to his old school music, which all the neighbors loved and appreciated him playing.

He was preceded in death are his parents and brother, Bernard Wesley.

Charles is survived by his strong and loving wife, Luz “Lu” Wesley; children, Darryl R. Wesley, Chrissfine G. Wesley and Tyrone D. Wesley; step-children, Jenny Lopez, Diego Lopez, William Lopez and Rontell B. Robinson; grandchildren, Devyn C. Wesley, Teryn D. Wesley, Anija Carr, Christina Chavis, Victoria Falls, Kayden Ryan Wesley, Darryl A. Wesley, Jamie Rembert, Shaquay Wesley, Inez Jett-Wesley, Marcus Wesley, Tatyanna Rodriguez, Izabella Rodriguez, Jose Colunga, Diego Lopez, Jr. and Gabriel Talmage Lopez; great-grandchildren, Elijah Drane and Ilona Dior Marie Hartfield; brothers, James (Darlene) Wesley, Ernest Wesley, Pernell (Margaret) Wesley and Larry (Charmaine) Wesley; sister, Laverne Perry; nieces and nephews, Alexis, Schnien, Shannon, Paula, Zillah, Michael, James, Jr., Tarik, Jarmen, Andre, Schnien and Sha; friends, all DAV Chapter 38 members, John Cornish and Ron Melason, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

God had a specific agenda for Charles. and he fulfilled many of those goals and left us with wisdom, humor and compassion for others. He we will truly miss you as you leave a legacy of a loving husband, brother and friend.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. and funeral service at 2:00 p.m.. both at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073.
