David Erwin, Sr. Obituary

On December 3, 1938, in Charlotte, NC, David Alexander Erwin, Sr. was born. David, or "Dave," was the eldest of seven children born to Calvin Erwin, Sr. and Blanche Erwin. 

Dave retired from the United States Navy after serving for 22 years. He was known to fish, bowl, ride bikes and play softball, all or most were activities he enjoyed with his wife and children. He was also known for his green thumb and was a Master Gardener. Dave credited his grandfather, Walter Woods, for his love of gardening. His beautiful yard was the center for many family gatherings. Dave was a loyal and supportive husband, a loving and generous father, and a great friend and mentor to many.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy Adderly.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Delores Erwin; three children, David Alexander Erwin, Jr. and his wife Maribel, Danna Menissa Pitt and her husband Benjamin Pitt, and Damon Alan Erwin and his wife Kelly; siblings, Calvin Erwin, Jr., Patricia West, Loretta Kilgore, Delores Erwin and Beauford Erwin. Dave is also survived by his grandchildren, Kayla, Vanessa, Olivia and Colin Erwin, all of whom allowed him to have the special joy of being a grandfather.

An interment with military honors will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
