Dennis Hartzog, 83, passed away on May 15, 2026. Born on April 6, 1943, in Barbour County, Alabama, Dennis lived a life centered on family, friendship, and a career he truly loved.
Dennis’s life centered around family. He and his wife Jane met when they were teenagers and were inseparable thereafter. They loved each other more than anything and enjoyed sharing their happiness with family and friends. With a ready smile, generous spirit, and genuine love for people, Dennis had a remarkable gift for bringing others together. He and Jane built a close community of friends everywhere they lived. Dennis was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Grandaddy was probably his favorite role, and he was patient and attentive to all his grandchildren.
Dennis had a natural talent for working with numbers and managed the books for several companies before discovering his true calling in the car business. He worked for Dan Vaden Chevrolet in Savannah, Georgia, before opening his own dealership in Pembroke, Georgia where he stayed for 10+ years. He later served as General Manager of a dealership in Valdosta, Georgia, for three years before eventually settling in North Florida. For the last 20 years of his career, Dennis proudly served as General Manager of Roberts Oldsmobile Isuzu where he continued to build lasting friendships and enjoy many of the things he loved including golf trips, Jacksonville Jaguars games, and time spent with those he cared about most.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Ellis Hartzog and Hettie Irene Hartzog and his sisters, Vonnie Strickland and Rhydona Skinner.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Jane Watson Hartzog; his children, Jan (Tom) Whitesell and Denise (Jeff) Getsy; his grandchildren, Liliana Whitesell, Stella Getsy, Lena Whitesell, and JD Getsy; along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Dennis will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the way he made people feel welcome wherever he went.
