Esmine transitioned peacefully on the morning of July 22, 2024.
Born January 26, 1939 in Jamaica, Esmine always dreamed of prosperity that could come from living abroad. With this in mind, she left for England in the early 1960s and by the late 1960s, departed England for the United States, where she remained until her passing.
Esmine lived her life the best she knew and left this earth knowing that she not only lived her American dream as a real estate owner and landlord, but also opened the door for many family members to do the same.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Edith Vickers, and sister, Evelyn Lee.
Esmine is survived by two biological daughters; Sonia Jackson and Ann-Marie Knight (Noad); and three grandchildren, Ryan Rankine, Javon Knight and Karl Knight. While not a biological daughter, Esmine had a special mother/daughter-like relationship with Donna Noad that transcended years and distance. She is also survived by her siblings, Ivy (Redguard), Franklin, Eric, Gerald and Stennett Bennett, and more than 20 nieces and nephews, their children and many other family members she loved deeply.
While our hearts mourn the loss of one of our family’s matriarchs, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace alongside our Heavenly Father. She completed her work — to care for her father, to help family transition to the US and, of course, to support her children and grandchildren. Now, she is with her mother, Edith, something she has always longed for. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Esmine, we love you.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., both at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073, (904) 264-1233.
