Obituary

On January 4, 1922, Eva Sadie Watson was born to the late Alfred and Sadie Watson in Philadelphia, PA. As a child, Eva enjoyed getting into innocent carefree mischief with her brothers. They would jump trains and ride horses, which cultivated her love for cowboy television shows in her later years.  Her fondest memories as a teen were watching her sisters dance at parties as she drank soda pop before joining in on the fun herself. What Eva adored most in this world was raising children, which included her own and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eva met and remained married to James Ballard Moorman until he passed away.  Seventeen children were born from their union.  Later in life, Eva met Fred Demby (lovingly known as “Pop Pop”) whom she loved and shared her life with until his passing.

Eva's lifespan is evidence she experienced a lot of historical events and changes of the times both good and bad. She made her ancestors, deceased parents and siblings proud by voting for the first elected black president, Barack Obama.  President Obama even thanked Eva for her support with a kind kiss on the cheek at a political rally.

At the marvelous age of 101 years-old, she transcended into heaven on September 13, 2023.  Her remaining family on Earth will always remember her gentle nurturing spirit, beautiful shy smile, kind heart and playful sense of humor.  She truly loved being surrounded by family and it is a blessing to know she will continue to be in the kingdom of heaven.

She leaves behind in her loving memory: her children, Joseph “Pee Wee” Moorman (Anna), Carl Moorman, Anthony Moorman (Norma Jean), Maria Moorman (Ronald Davis), Christine Elizabeth Smith, Patricia Williams, Russell Moorman (Belinda), and Vincent Moorman (Roxannder); her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, Yvonne Moorman, Daniel Spencer, Pam Moorman, Beatrice “Bee” Moorman, and James “Jimmy” Travick; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is joined in heaven by her parents Alfred and Sadie Watson; siblings, Bertha Pritchett, Alfred Watson, Finney Watson, Corney Watson, and Lena Archie; children, William “Sonny” Moorman, Eva “Sis” Coney, Thomas Moorman, Paul Moorman, Melvin Moorman, Helen Spencer, Mary Moorman, Charlotte Moorman, and Charles Moorman; along with several grandchildren, in-laws, and cousins.

Eva’s daughter, Mary Ida Moorman, was born on October 12, 1957.  Mary’s child Willie “Peanut” Reed preceded her in heaven.  Mary was a loving mother, genuine, outspoken on matters of the heart (telling it like it is), lit up a room with her humor, enjoyed fellowshipping with her congregation while dressing in the latest church fashion and most importantly, loved her family in her own special way.  She passed away from sudden illness on November 27, 2020. Mary will be laid to rest with her mother.
