Fred Lee Sapp, Sr. was born on October 30, 1932 to the late Azeryl Sapp and M. Elizabeth Clayton in Tallahassee, FL. He departed this life on August 1, 2022. He attended school in Hugh, FL, and Stanton Preparatory school in Jacksonville, FL he met and married Bertha on May 21. 1949. Their union was blessed with seven children.
Fred began working turpentine at the age of 10 years old. During his work life he worked as a laborer and truck driver for Florida Soap. He was a dairy worker at Cowford Dairy. After securing his small engine certification from St. Augustine Tech, he worked as a small engine mechanic until he retired from Taylor Rentals.
He was a man of few words and spoke with quiet authority. He was respectful of all people, a true "gentle giant." His hobbies kept him quite busy working on engines, gardening or taking long walks. He was always ready for a conversation about his love for God, and his church home He reminded us that. "we are blessed," and "never to take God for granted." was one of his favorite sayings. If you asked him how are you doing? He said, "Thank God for another day.” His church home was New Hope for the Lost Christian Fellowship, Senior Pastor Terry Suggs.
Fred was preceded in death by two younger brothers, Benny Lee Clayton and Arthur Lee Clayton; his sons: Johnnie Lee Sapp (stillborn), Fred Lee Sapp, Jr., Ezzard C. Sapp, and Anthony Sapp; and daughter Karene C. Godbolt.
He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife of 73 years, Bertha M. Sapp; son, Azell Sapp, Middleburg, FL; daughter, Queen E. Williams (widow), Middleburg, FL; younger siblings, Herbert (Cora) Clayton, Middleburg, FL, Inez Hayes (widow) and Earnestine Clayton both of Green Cove Springs, FL. He also leaves to mourn his passing a host of grandchildren, great-grandchild, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,cousins, extended family and friends.
