George Newton Suddath

George Newton Suddath, 93, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with his wife by his side.

He was born on April 30, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Mary Lindsey Suddath and Foy Newton Suddath.

George graduated from Georgia Military Academy in 1951 and from Georgia Tech in 1955 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He later earned a Bachelor of Law degree from Atlanta Law School. He served one tour of duty in the U.S. Navy as a Supply Officer and remained in the Navy Reserve for 10 years before entering the family business, Suddath Moving and Storage Company of Atlanta.

After the business was sold in the mid-1970s, George became a loan officer with an Atlanta Mortgage Company and later an Assistant Vice President with BankSouth in College Park, Georgia. He retired shortly after the passing of his first wife, Kay, in the summer of 1988.

In 1992, George moved to Orange Park, Florida, where he enjoyed 25 years of golfing three to five times a week with friends. His love of studying the stock market was surpassed only by his love of music, movies, and live theater. He was an active member of Highpoint Community Church, and most who knew him would describe him as the quintessential Southern gentleman—soft-spoken, gentle smile, kind, considerate, and generous. From 1991 until his death, his life centered around his devoted wife, Nancy, who simply adored him for 34 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Kay Beddingfield Suddath, (married June 1955), and by his son, Ronald Newton Suddath. 

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ulrich Suddath; his sister, Joy Suddath Simmons; his son, Jim Suddath (Jenny); his daughter-in-law, Patti Suddath (Ron); his grandchildren, Nick Suddath (Emily), Josh Suddath (Kristine), Joanna Suddath Cole (Andy), Julia Suddath Harkins (Seth), and Jordan Suddath Gunn (Riley); 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his cherished “bonus” family: Geoffrey “Ryan” Ulrich (Kara) and their three sons, Cole, Gabe, and Luke; and the “daughter he never had,” Chase Ulrich Eackles (Dave).

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Highpoint Community Church (84 Knight Boxx Road, Orange Park, FL 32065). The service will be officiated by his grandson, Navy Chaplain Lieutenant Commander Nick Suddath. His beloved BoTime Boys will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Highpoint Community Church Mortgage Elimination Fund or to Mercy Support Services (P.O. Box 1526, Orange Park, FL 32067), two ministries that were dear to George’s compassionate heart.
