Gertrude Catherine Henry, 85, passed away on April 8, 2024 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on February 27, 1939 in Moultrie, GA, to the late Benjamin “Ben” Henry and Nellie Bolden Henry.
Gertrude attended A.L. Lewis Elementary School, James Weldon Johnson Junior High School and graduated from Stanton High School. She received her BA Degree in Business Education from Edward Waters College and a Master’s Degree in Business Education from Florida A&M University. For thirty-two and a half years, Gertrude taught Business Education in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Gertrude was a member of New Colossians Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville and held the position of Sunday School secretary. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, shopping and traveling.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charlie Henry; grandparents, Dave and Annie Bolden, and Green and Gertrude Henry.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria M. Henry Norris (Albert); sister, Dr. Annie B. Henry, PhD; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends living in Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Massachusetts and Connecticut; special god-sisters, Robvonita and Ravershawn Troup; special close friends, Leroy Wiggers, Noel Martin, Gwen Flanders, Doretha Smith, Evelyn Bankhead, Patrick Lochwood and Tom Saga, Austin Gibbs, Althea Harris, Ina Adams, Tracy Sanders, Kevin Clark and Ruth Wright, and a host of family and friends.
