Herbert Braxton Obituary

Herbert Eugene Braxton, 68, passed away on October 11, 2022 in Middleburg, Florida. He was born on August 31, 1954 in Camden, New Jersey, to the late Lucy Braxton.

Mr. Braxton graduated from Camden High School and later joined and retired from the Marines and the U.S. Government after 38 years and 2 months of service. While enlisted, Mr. Braxton was one point away from being a Navy Seal. He spent some of his retirement “getting his exercise in” as a 3rd shift Merchandise and Stocking Team Member at Wal-Mart.

Before moving to Florida in 1994, Mr. Herbert and his family were faithful members of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in New Jersey. Upon arrival to Jacksonville, the Braxton family joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and assisted with Sunday Breakfast by cooking his infamous “Home Fries.” After years of service to St. John M.B.C., Mr. Herbert and his wife Diana, felt it was time for a change and joined Greater Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Herbert stewarded his time there by regularly attending church services and serving as a Deacon. Above all, Mr. Herbert Braxton desired to please God the best way he knew how, as a humble and faithful servant in God’s Kingdom.

Mr. Herbert was a longstanding member of Park Lodge #90 AF & AM. He held many officer positions within various houses, with one of them being a Past Master of Park Lodge #90.

Mr. Herbert loved spending time with his family. When he wasn’t resting or working, you could find him in his recliner watching westerns, football and the news. While we understand that Heaven needed him more, Mr. Herbert will be greatly missed by all those who loved him here on earth.

Mr. Herbert is survived by his wife, Diana Braxton; children, Michelle (Dennis) Dearborn, Eugene (Allison) Braxton and Donald (NaTasha) Braxton; grandchildren, Elijah, David, Eli, Autumn, Baileigh and Symphony; sisters, Elizabeth Crawford and Sharon Jones; and a host of family, friends and coworkers who loved him dearly.

A visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. both at Greater Zion Grove Baptist Church, 6317 118th Street, Jacksonville, FL 32244. Mr. Herbert E. Braxton will be laid to rest on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
