Janet Brown Obituary

Janet Elaine Brown, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and family matriarch, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 87. She departed this life at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family.

Janet was born on January 16, 1938, in White Plains, Westchester County, New York. She was the daughter of the late Ellen Floyd and Joseph Perry. She spent her early childhood and attended school in Greenburgh, where she also attended Union Baptist Church as a child. During her teenage years, her family moved to the Bronx, New York.

On August 26, 1978, Janet married the love of her life, Anthony Brown. After settling in Roosevelt, Long Island, she raised her family and worked in the Nassau County Public School System. She was deeply committed to her home and community, known for her warm heart and dedication to those around her.

Later in life, Janet relocated from New York to Port Saint Lucie, Florida, and eventually retired in Jacksonville, where she continued to enjoy time with her family.

Janet was full of life, spirited, feisty, and never afraid to speak her mind. She lit up every room and loved being surrounded by family, always taking pride in creating joyful, lasting memories. A devoted sports fan, she especially loved cheering on her favorite team, the New York Giants, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to stay active and involved. She found joy in board games, card games, and good conversation. She especially loved country music, with Charley Pride as her favorite, and never tired of watching The Andy Griffith Show.

She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony Brown, her siblings Shirley Perry, James Perry, Evelyn Perry, Helen Perry, and William Floyd, as well as her granddaughter Nikkia Simmons.

Janet leaves behind a loving legacy through her children Richard Simmons, Kenneth Simmons, Anthony Brown and her devoted daughter-in-law LaGeorgia, Shirley Brown, and Tyrone Brown.

She was a proud grandmother to Kenny II, Richard, Ra’Sean, Ebonee, Ricky, Karla, AJ, William, LaMar, Tess, LaShae, James, and Neter.

She is also survived by her siblings Robert Floyd, Richard Floyd, and Roberta Floyd, along with her dear cousin Helen Coker, who was like a sister to her. Janet also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family who cherished her deeply.

Her love, strength, and spirit will continue to live on through the lives she touched.
