John Lewis Coles, 75, passed away on July 8, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on October 20, 1948, in Halifax, VA, to the late John B. Coles and Lilye Fisher Coles.
John attended Howard University for two years. He was a Certified Medical Contracting Officer and retired from the U.S. Air Force. John also retired as a Civil Service Medical Supply Officer at Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS JAX) Hospital.
John was a member and Deacon at Celebration Church and was a former choir member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he also served on the finance board and as an usher.
John enjoyed building model trains, planes and cars, and collecting stamps, coins, Hot Wheels and mugs from his travels.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Coles and Lilye Fisher Coles and brother in-law, Reginald Reed and cousin, Oliver Lewis Clark.
John is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Coles; sons, John Adam Coles (Marsha) and David Lewis Coles (Charlene); grandchildren, Nina Elizabeth Coles, Alicia Lilly Ann Coles, Hailey Yazmin Feliciano Coles, Zaiir Joshua Chatmon Coles, Elijah Collins and Jamai Collins; brothers, Larry Darnell Coles, William Preston Coles and Steven E. Coles; sisters, Sylvia Maxine Miller and Mishelle Elaine Coles; mother in-law, Dorothy Lee Ramsey Reed; brothers and sisters in-law, Barbara Spriggins, Denise Reed, Terrie Reed, Kim Bell (Burnell), Brian Reed (Keke), and Jonathan Reed; special nieces, Breon A. Reed, Kandice Spriggins, Kayla Bell, Nyla Barnes and grand nephew, Brody R. Brooks.
