WAGGONER, Judy Wright a resident of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on August 4, 2025, at her residence at the age of 82. She was born in Bassett, VA, and grew up in a family consisting of her father, Rev. Wasena Franklin Wright; mother, Lorena George Wright; and her brothers, Dr. Rev. Wasena Jr. “Buddy” and Charles, all of whom she has joined with in heaven with Christ.
She graduated from Gouchland High School, where she enjoyed singing. Judy grew up to be a supportive figure across several generations of her family, always welcoming others into her home for gatherings and celebrations. She enjoyed traveling and experiencing life with her loved ones. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and a sassy Red Hatter “queen”. She was a talented artist, creating cherished works of her family, pets and the places she traveled. She was an extremely talented seamstress who enjoyed fashioning unique pieces, especially wedding gowns.
After her move to The Windsor, she continued to thrive in helping others, whether it was by giving them little craft creations to brighten their day or by giving encouragement. Her greatest joy of all was spending time with her grandchildren. Whether it was playing a long card game or hide-n-seek, painting nails, snuggling on the sofa, baking, sharing her flowers, or taking trips to Disney, she made each one feel loved and special. Her loving hugs, generous heart and strong will in her beliefs live as an example forever in the hearts and minds of her children and grandchildren, whom she adored so dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Mark H. Waggoner. She is survived by her son, Michael Proffitt; a daughter, Michelle Sarra (Frank); two stepchildren, Debbie McCoy (Downing) and John Waggoner (Jennifer); 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank hospice and the staff at The Windsor of Ortega for their gentle care, support and compassion in helping our mother transition peacefully in comfort.
Judy will join her husband Mark at the Naval Academy Columbarium once final arrangements are completed.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you give of yourself to brighten someone else’s day by visiting a local retirement or veterans home, having a cup of coffee with an old friend, donating to an animal shelter or adopting a cat in her loving memory.
