June Christopher

Alma June Custead Christopher, 80, of Middleburg, Florida, passed away on March 17, 2023, from complications stemming from her battle with Alzheimer’s at Trident Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina surrounded by her family.

June was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 24, 1942. She graduated from Baldwin High School, Duval County Florida in 1960.  and moved to Charleston, South Carolina in the early 1960’s and lived there for 40 years. 

June is survived by her husband, Billy Hugh Christopher, her daughter, Melinda June Gonzalez (Mike), her grandson, Brandon Tyler Houston, stepson, Jon Christopher (Caren), and step grandson, Jackson. She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Custead, Rebecca Diaz (Victor) and Roslyn Nolan, and her brother, Richard Custead (Laura). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, family and many close and caring friends.

June was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alma Lucille Motes Nolan and Homer John Custead, Sr., her brother, Homer “Buddy” Custead Jr., and her stepdaughter, Pamela Christopher Chambers.

June worked hard all of her life. She was a successful insurance agent who later owned and ran a successful dog grooming business while being a single mother. She taught her daughter Melinda the value of a dollar by instilling a great work ethic in her at an early age.  She also taught and shared responsibilities with her of how to keep a home while instilling good Christian morals and values while being nurturing and strict. She always went above and beyond in all she did. June and her husband Billy later became very active in raising and showing Yorkshire Terriers and finished them with AKC championship titles and made a worldwide name for herself in this arena, being well respected by many. She was always an exceptional Housewife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend. June was very kind, compassionate and handled herself with dignity and grace. She will be missed and remembered in all the lives she touched and influenced.

We will always love and miss June until we can meet again.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12:00 noon, both at Middleburg United Methodist Church, 3925 Main Street, Middleburg, FL 32068.
