Maria Herminda Giraldo was born in Argelia, Valle, Colombia South America on July 22, 1945, to father, Rafael Rico and mother, Adalgiza Restrepo. Maria was the second of 13 children, eight females and five males. The daughters were Irene, Ada, Rosa, Gloria, Patricia, Julieta, and Magda. The sons were Rafael, Marcos, Wilfredo, Sidney and Jose. As the second oldest, Maria spent most of her youth helping her mother raise her younger siblings. She did well in school, became a nurse and worked in Manizales Colombia for five years. She eventually moved to Pereira where she met her husband, Jesus Giraldo at the age of 24. They decided to travel to the United States and got married on December 15, 1976 in Queens, New York.

The young couple was born again in the Lord Jesus Christ a few years later. Together, they delighted in raising their three children; Wilson, Celliness and Elian.

Their children have given them seven grandchildren; Ashley, Juan Jose, Sergio Esteban, Sebastian, Sara, Gabriel and Isabella. By the grace of God, Maria has been blessed with an abundant and close-knit family throughout her life.  Always ready to lend a helping hand and share the gospel, she and her husband have touched many lives throughout the years.  Never ashamed or afraid to share the good news of her savior and son of God Jesus Christ. Her children can attest that her faith was unshakable. Her later years were fraught with many challenges and afflictions and she was a faithful fighter and disciple to the end.

Glory be to God our holy father for the union and fruitful family granted to Maria and Jesus Giraldo. A marriage filled with his grace, mercy and love for the glory of the living God.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Iglesia Bautista Fuente De Luz y Salvación, 7928 Rampart Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32244.
