Michael David Whitfield, 69, passed away on May 11, 2026, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on December 16, 1956, in Chicago, IL, to the late Maurice Whitfield and Shirley “Angel” Whitfield.
Michael served 20 years with the U.S. Navy and retired in 2003 as a Petty Officer First Class. He was a captain of the Sons of Thunder Israelites, a Hebrew Israelite Bible School that empowered and educated Black youths, Native Americans and Hispanics.
Michael was a lover of music. He had played drums since he was in high school and later in life, taught himself to play bass and guitar.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Belinda Whitfield; sisters, Kimberly Cole and Chevalier; and brothers, Nathaniel Whitfield and Phillip Whitfield.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Michelle Whitfield, and stepdaughters, Barbara Addison, Tanya Vanderbilt and Samantha Larrazabal; brother, Peewee Powell; sisters, Christine Annang, Vanessa Heard and Vernita Wilcox; and a host of other family members and friends.
