HIS SHORT STORY
Morgan-Drew Kohn was the middle child born to William David and Yolanda Osborne Kohn in Jacksonville, Florida. Drew was educated in the Jacksonville and Orange Park school districts. He excelled in auto mechanics and football. He received numerous honors while attending Oakleaf High School, including being honored by his fellow players as their captain who led them to state-wide notoriety. He subsequently attended Bethune-Cookman University, an HBCU in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, and finally Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, receiving an Associate’s Degree. Drew was an action hero who “looked up” to his older brother Malachi and “looked out” for his little sister Madison—the three were very close. Morgan-Drew aspired to be a minister and was an energetic encourager of others.
In July of 2017, Morgan-Drew was involved in an accident that left him in a coma for 244 days, and medical experts diagnosed that even if he did awaken from it, he would not have a significant quality of life. However, due to a praying family—led by his mother Yolanda, quite the opposite was true. He accompanied his mother (an ordained minister) from coast to coast as a living testimony of what a loving family with hope and faith in God can accomplish. It was his mother and father, aided by his siblings, who cared for and nurtured him for 7 years and 7 days following his accident. It is a testimony from Holy Scripture found in Daniel 11:32b: “…but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”
Early on the morning of July 26, 7 days from his 30th birthday, Morgan was again involved in an accident that took him away from us. Morgan-Drew leaves to mourn: his father and mother, William David, III and Yolanda; brother, Malachi David; sister, Madison Yasmine; grandparents, Brenda Kohn, Louis and Gwendolyn Osborne, Danny Osborne; great-grandmother, Ruth Osborne; a niece, Isabella Kohn, and a great host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other loving family members and friends.
Morgan-Drew was predeceased by his grandfather, William David, Jr.; great grandparents, Louis Osborne, Sr. and Grace Osborne and Thelma Hill.
