Obituary

Natalie Gardner Rutherford, a native of Tyrone, PA, passed away on April 22, 2023 at Harbor Chase in Mandarin, FL. She was born on November 9, 1932, on a bridge in Altoona, PA, entering the hospital before her mother did, which is how she lived the rest of her life.

Natalie was the loyal and loving wife of LT Colonel Alan K. Rutherford. She struck the perfect balance of class and fun as the mother of five children she gave birth to over six years. Traversing wars, typhoons, floods and hurricanes, “Nano” as Natalie was affectionately called,  was the pillar of the Rutherford clan from Japan to Germany, North Dakota to Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-seven years, LT Colonel Alan K. Rutherford; parents, James and Carmen Gardner and sister, Carmen Reeve.

Natalie leaves to cherish her memory her children, Kent (Brenda), Chris (Lu Winn), Brian (Deisi), Lori (Chris) and Andrew (Cathy); twenty adoring grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted privately for the immediate family.

Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL (904) 264-1233 is assisting the family.
