Patrick William Malone aka “P.W.” was born on June 28, 1951, to the late Harry Earl and Cora Mae Irene (Miller) Malone in Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Kokomo High School (1969) and enlisted the United States Marine Corps on 14 October 1969. P.W. used to say that he chose “the president’s own” otherwise known as the United States Marine Corps to follow in his brother John’s footsteps.
During his military career, P.W., achieved the following Military Occupational Specialties; Anti-Tank Assault, Drill Instructor, and Aviation Supply. Although he was deployed in support of several campaign missions around the world, he often spoke of Japan as being his favorite place due to the rich culture and food that he was blessed to experience. After honorably serving over 23 years, Master Gunnery Sergeant, P. W. Malone, retired on 31 August 1993, from the United States Marine Corps.
P.W. loved the small-town atmosphere, so upon retirement from the USMC, he joined the U.S. Government contracting agency CACI, in Beaufort, South Carolina until 2018, when he affectionally let everyone know that he was “officially” retired and relocating to Jacksonville, Florida. He had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, shrimping, stamps and coins collecting, history, photography, cooking, and his love of the HAM [Amateur] radio where he would spend endless hours and nights talking to people around the world. He was a man known for loving good food and always looking for a new recipe to try.
P.W. was a good, loving, principled man who will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and those whose lives he touched along his journey. He made many lifelong friends along the way, some of whom are here today (both in person and remote attendance).
He leaves to cherish his memory: four daughters, Gabrielle Reynolds (Darien) of Jacksonville, FL, Kimberley (K.) Yvette Baker of Orange Park, FL, Miriam E. Collier of Jacksonville, FL, and Koffey R. Malone of Kokomo, IN; one son, Julius Baker (Diane) of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, John W. Malone (Jackie) of Kokomo, IN; one sister, Veronica Cannon (Delmar) of Kokomo, IN; two brothers-in-law, Clayton Hamilton (Mary), Brandon, FL, James Watson (Renee), Jacksonville, FL; one sister-in-law, Veronica G. Gammon, of Jacksonville, FL, 12 grand-children, and 19 great-grandchildren. His passing also brings deep sorrow to many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances.
A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, 2:00 p.m., at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073.
