Phillip Eugene Griffin, 62, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away January 29, 2025.
He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 30, 1962.
Phil grew up in Florida, the son of a Baptist preacher, and was always active in church and youth groups. After managing a traveling gospel singing group as a young adult, he moved to the state of Kansas. He was ordained as a minister and was associated for many years with the MCC. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing from Wichita State University.
Phil retired in 2022 after 21 years as director of Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention for the State of Kansas. He also served in various other capacities for the state of Kansas. He was an avid supporter of Al-Anon and Alateen in both Kansas and Florida. He helped establish new chapters and lead in numerous leadership conferences throughout the nation. He was recently selected to be on the World Service Organization Board of Trustees.
Phil is survived by significant other, Carl Johnson; two brothers, Paul Griffin of Dublin, Georgia and David Wall (Donna) of Dexter, Georgia; two aunts, Sandra Turner (Tom) and Gayle Turbeville, both of Orange Park, Florida along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, Florida 32073, (904) 264-1233.
