Randolph "Randy" Gathers

Mr. Randolph “Randy” Gathers was born on November 24, 1955 in Charleston, South Carolina. Throughout his childhood, he attended public schools and was a graduate of Chicora High School, and then went on to join the U.S. Armed Forces.

He was united in holy matrimony to Lynette P. Gathers on May 22, 1976. The union was blessed with two children Zwaski and Zamon Gathers.

Mr. Gathers was employed by the United States Government for 40 years.  His career began in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was employed by the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 13 years. He and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1995, where he continued his civil service career until he retired on March 31, 2020. He was a quiet but strong spirit that found joy in living simply and humbly; always keeping his family close to his heart.  He was a loving husband of 44 years, a father, a brother, and friend who would lend a hand to anyone in need. He contributed regularly to the Alzheimer’s Foundation and the Combined Federal Campaign. Randy enjoyed spending his quiet time relaxing at home watching his Westerns, posting encouraging messages online, but most of all, he enjoyed preparing exceptional meals for his family and friends. His immutable spirit will be forever missed by all who were influenced by his presence and the lessons he passed down will remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He peacefully departed this life on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ancil Gathers Sr. and Rosa Gathers of Charleston, South Carolina, three sisters and three brothers. 

Randy’s beautiful life will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Lynette Gathers, and his two sons, Zwaski Gathers (Dee Gathers) of Jacksonville, Florida and Zamon Gathers (Fatima Kargbo-Gathers) of Atlanta, Georgia, his seven grandchildren, two great grand-children, his siblings, Ancil Gathers Jr. (Daisy Gathers) of Long Island, New York, Deloris Gathers of New York, New York, Leigh Nesmith (James Nesmith) of Deland, Florida, Carnell Gathers (Rose Gathers) of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Priscilla Shaw of Summerville, South Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
