Richard D. White, 94, passed away on June 4, 2024 in Orange Park, FL. He was born on March 2, 1930 in Syracuse, NY, to the late August and Frances White.
Richard was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. He served in the Korean War and was part of the team installing the first radar in Antarctica and placing the Florida Governor’s flag there. He worked as an electronics technician and previously served as the head of ground electronics at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Richard was a master gardener and avid golfer — playing at NAS JAX. He enjoyed reading and his time dancing with the Friday Night Dance Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joan (Burke)White; brother, Donald White; sisters-in-law, Teresa DiVeronica and Carm White; brothers-in-law, William Schmidt, Mike Buttino and Edward Marchetti;.
Richard is survived by his wife, Jennie (Buttino) White; children, Julia White and Mathew White; grandson, Anthony; nephews, William Schmidt and Michael Buttino; nieces, Maureen Hoofnagle and Lorriane Marchetti, and a host of other family members and friends.
The family extends a special thank you to the ICU Unit and Inpatient Rehabilitation at HCA Florida Orange Hospital and Kindred of North Florida.
A service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, 1649 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073.
Interment with honors will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, 9:00 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Stroke Association.
