Ronald Pierce Hollis, Chief Petty Officer, US Navy (AZ) (RET.)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Hollis on December 26, 2024.
Ron was born in Leon County, Florida, to Lorainne Daniels and James Pierce in 1951. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Myrtle Ann Hollis; two stepsons, Timothy (Yang) Padgett and Roland (Cathy) Padgett; daughter, Michelle (Steven) Reynolds; son, Scott (Kristen) Hollis; eight grandkids, Jacob, Shelbi, Kaden, Melina, Noah, Kiley, Hannah, Kyson; his great niece, Debbie Jo; and grand-niece, Joni. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James and sisters, Nancy Jo and Linda.
Following high school graduation, Ron joined the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Saratoga and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Aircraft Carriers, and during Desert Storm. After his retirement from the Navy in 1993, Ron worked for Transamerica, First Plus and Bombardier Capital.
He enjoyed building and fixing things in his free time for both his own house and many others. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family, extended family and friends. In fact, he rarely met a stranger who didn’t become a friend. He loved the U.S. Navy, playing guitar and singing, dancing with his wife, hanging out and entertaining in “the garage,” watching old westerns, telling jokes (especially corny dad jokes), making people laugh, and cheering for the FSU Seminoles and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Ron’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Ron Hollis to the Chief Petty Officer Scholarship Fund at cposf.org.
