Sylvane Magloire Obituary

Sylvane Magloire passed away peacefully on November 14, 2022 in Jacksonville, Florida.  She was born in Joigny, France on June 1st of 1939, the daughter of Charles Auguste BAILLOT and Paulette née BILLAUT.  Sylvane went to Nursing School in Paris, France and was awarded a Diplôme d'État d'infirmière in 1961.  She practiced as a nurse for four decades—in France, Venezuela, and in New York City at the Lycée Français of New York—before retiring in 2004.

Sylvane married Dr. Louis Magloire in 1960 and had three children; Eric Magloire of Jacksonville, Philippe Magloire of Hawaii, Dr. Joël Magloire of New York, and stepdaughter Frederique Lemaitre of France.  She was tremendously proud of her six grandchildren (Ryanne Archer-Davis, Dr. Marina Magloire, Claudia Magloire, Esq., Ihlan Magloire, David Magloire, and Elias Magloire), and was a constant and loving presence throughout their childhoods. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren (Omar Michaud, Noa Burch, and Zhuri Davis), and one goddaughter (Krissy Briere).

Sylvane is remembered for the extraordinary life she crafted for herself and her family across three different continents. Even in the midst of a long illness, her sweet disposition continued to shine through in her animated responses to music, her love of ice cream, and the glowing smile she would often bestow on her family members and visitors. In her life, Sylvane was a lover of crossword puzzles and cross stitching, a longtime fitness aficionado, a speaker of three languages, and a gifted healer. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and community members across the world.

Her children wish to express their gratitude for all of the condolences and expressions of support from family and friends in France, Venezuela, Spain, the United States, Martinique, Haiti, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Singapore, and Costa Rica.  Additionally, the family wishes to thank her caregivers in Community Hospice and the Diamond Assisted Living Facility in Jacksonville.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
