Terrie Hargrove Obituary

Terrie Jones Hargrove, 73, passed away on April 9, 2026, in Fleming Island, FL. She was born on April 19, 1952, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Charles A. H. Jones, Sr. and Bertha L. Jones. She was a testament to Christ-like love, whose true passion was dedicating her life to serving others.

Terrie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, attended Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, VA, and Christian Counseling Institute of Florida, Inc. She traveled extensively, living in Spain, Japan, Bermuda and Italy.

Known for a quiet, humble approach to giving, Terrie was a tireless advocate for equal education and social justice work. Her passion was serving the marginalized people in society, serving the least, the last and the lost.

Terrie learned the value of hard work early in her life, later mentoring others on the importance of a good work ethic and living within their means. She believed that those with great means had a duty to use their wealth to address society’s most pressing problems.

Following a philosophy of giving while living, Terrie followed the path of altruistic philanthropy. She made significant, often anonymous, donations to support public education mentoring and tutoring programs.

Terrie was an inspiring force for good. She didn’t just donate money but time, energy and unwavering passion. She was hands-on, deeply involved, serving her local community women’s homeless shelters and senior citizen’s homes.

Terrie had a deep love for her family, often providing words of wisdom to the young nieces and nephews and reinforcing her “big sister” status among her siblings.

Family members preceding Terrie in death are her parents; husband, Joe Edward Hargrove, and siblings, Altrinica L. Jones and Dwight W. Jones.

Terrie is survived by Charles (C.C.) A.H. Jones, Jr., Portsmouth, VA, Kevin Jones, a.k.a. Karriem M. Shabazz, Norfolk, VA, Faith E. Platt (William) Lumberton, NC, Valerie F. Cousins (Gordon), Richmond, VA, Golethia (Goldie) B. Irving, Winston-Salem, NC, Cressette T. Smith, Orange Park, FL, and a host of nieces and nephews, other family members, friends and loved ones. She leaves a legacy that spans many lives.

We are incredibly appreciative of the medical professionals who provided Terrie with such excellent care throughout her journey.
