William Alonza Gravitte III

William A. (Al) Gravitte died December 12, 2024, at his home in Orange Park, Florida. He was a loving brother, uncle, friend and a proud Navy veteran.

Al was born on September 8, 1958, in Durham and grew up in Roxboro, NC. He graduated from Person Senior High School and attended Barton (formerly Atlantic Christian) College in Wilson, NC

After leaving college he worked for several years before enlisting and serving 6 years in the Navy as a F-18 avionics technician.

Al permanently settled in Florida upon discharge and was employed by Terra-Com Environmental Consulting as a Senior Technician for the last 16 years. His Terra-Com co-workers, friends and family gathered to remember him on January 10, 2024 in Vilano Beach.

Al was pre-deceased by his father, William A. Gravitte, Jr.; his mother, Geraldine Moorefield Crum and stepfather, Madison Howell Crum. He was also pre-deceased by his brother, Mason Crum and his niece, Mary Katherine Crum.

He is survived by siblings, Janet Sparks (Roger) of Durham, NC; Kim Biddix (Bill) of Lake Wylie, SC; Madison Crum (Julie) of New Bern, NC, as well as his sister-in law, Kim Jorgensen Crum. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Scottie Sparks Johnson (Will) of Chapel Hill, NC; Mary Matthew Sparks (William Blackwell) of Rougemont, NC; Catherine Crum Stephens (Jordan) of Colorado Springs, CO; Madison James Crum of Washington, DC; Madison Andrew Crum (Susannah) of Wilmington, NC; and Molly Ruth Crum of Wilmington. He also had 7 great nieces and nephews, Sampson Crum, Claire Johnson, Chloe Johnson, Tyler Stephens, James Stephens, Henry Stephens and Laurence Crum.

Family and friends will spread Al’s ashes in places that hold wonderful memories of him.
