William “Bill” Bain, Jr. Obituary

William “Bill” David Bain, Jr. passed away on June 14, 2023 in Middleburg, FL. He was born on October 8, 1943 in Roanoke, AL, to the late William David Bain, Sr. and Myrtle Alzania Murphy.

He attended Sydney Lanier High School prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the service, he met and married his love, Janice Diane Williams on July 31, 1965. After proudly serving our country for over four years, he chose not to re-enlist so he could spend time with his new wife. He then began a career of over 30 years in the life insurance industry, spent mostly with Life of Georgia. He achieved top awards, such as The Presidents Club, and earned multiple trips and vacations. His successful career led to several promotions and relocations that eventually ended in Raleigh, NC.

After his retirement from the insurance business in 1999, he moved back to Orange Park, FL. Bill obtained his license as a mortgage broker and began working with his older daughter, Vickie Morgan, at her business, Diamond Home Equity. After the housing market crashed, he wanted to work part-time and decided to become a greeter at Walmart. As a true people person with the gift of gab, this was the ideal position for him. When this position was phased out by the company, he transferred into the produce department. He was well respected by his peers and always took the time to check in on co-workers to see how they were doing and how he could help.

Bill enjoyed playing golf, whether he played with his wife, son-in-law or his men’s group with the church. Most of all, he loved going to the beach with his wife (and any family members), to bike, read and find sand dollars. He loved his family – he was a devoted husband, a loving Daddy, a caring Paw Paw, a wonderful brother, uncle, cousin and faithful friend. He had the best laugh, his eyes would always squint when he smiled and he never met a stranger.

In 2008, he gave his life to Jesus and was baptized. He became a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Orange Park, where he served as a loyal parishioner, deacon and volunteer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William David Bain, Sr. and Myrtle Alzania Murphy.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Janice “Jan” D. Bain; children, Vickie Morgan (Foy), Barbara “Barbie” Leland (Brian) and William “Bill” D. Bain, III; grandchildren, Matthew Sheffield (Michelle), Jana Morgan, Hannah Holland, Alice Paige Leland and Colby Clark; great-grandchildren, Hudson Sheffield, Shiloh Sheffield and Easton Sheffield; sisters, Shelby Manley, Opal Banish, Linda Smith and Beverly Searcy; and a host of other family members and friends.
