William “Billy” Carnell Jones, also known as “Pike” to many, passed away on July 20, 2020. He was born on May 28, 1948 in Columbus, GA, to the late Rand and Rosa Jones.
William, affectionately known as “Billy” to the family, received his AA Degree from Morristown College, Morristown, GA (1966-1968), BA Degree from Knoxville College, Knoxville, TN, and MS Degree in guidance and counseling from Fort Valley State College, Fort Valley, GA (1971-1972). He held licenses as a Mental Health Counselor and Master Addiction Counselor. After moving to Jacksonville, William was employed by Blind Services, where he enjoyed helping the blind in vocational training and later, he worked with disabled veterans at the Veterans Administration and retired with 31 years of service. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Community Resource Center as a mental health counselor.
William was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He loved reading and constantly read as well as watched television programs related to mental health. He also enjoyed listening to programs on financial planning with Dave Ramsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Simmons and Mary Hardy, and brothers, Rand Jones, Jr. and Woodrow Jones.
William leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sandra Jones; sons, Shaun Jones (Tiffany) and Patrick Jones (Taryn); grandchildren, Deon Jones, Elijah Jones, Londyn Jones, Taveana Forehand and Ethan Jones; sisters, Rose M. Taylor, Ruby Golatt and Betty Lowe (James), and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Omega brothers.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Boulevard, Orange Park, Florida 32073.
